Cross country: Taubl, Romanchick best the field

Trumbull High cross country runners Charlie Taubl and Kate Romanchick led the Eagles on Tuesday, both finishing first overall in a meet with Staples of Westport, Greenwich and Bridgeport Central on their home 2.9 trail course.

Taubl finished in a time of 15:58, Second place went to Zakeer Ahmad from Staples in a time of 15:59 and Chase Gornbein of Staples was good for third in a time of 16:00.

The Trumbull boys posted wins over Greenwich and Central. Trumbull freshman Cris Alegi broke the T Freshman record for the trail course in a time of 16:16.

Trumbull's top 5 boys varsity finishers 1. Taubl 15:58, 8th Taylor Auten 16:06, 9th Mitch Vecchione 16:07, 11th Alegi 16:16, 14th Jonathan Tinker 16:36.

On the girls side, Romanchick bested the field for the second time this season. She finished the course in 18:45, ten seconds in front of Greenwich's Sabrina Thuber 18:55 and 15 seconds in front of Susanna Martin of Staples.

The girls posted a win over Central, but lost to Greenwich and Staples.
