Cross country: THS freshman win Invitational title
Finishing up on a high note the Trumbull High boys cross country team Class of 2019 finished first overall at The Hatter Freshman Invitational held in Danbury’s Tarywile Park on Oct. 29.
The Eagles had a strong showing with seven runners finishing in the top 20. Trumbull ended the day with 33 points, out scoring Pomperaug, Staples, Fairfield Ludlowe, New Canaan, Fairfield Prep, Danbury, New Milford and Immaculate.
The 2-mile course had an unusual start as a large field of runners had about 50 meters at start to narrow down to a 10-foot wide path.
THS coach Jeff Klein suggested that the boys go out hard to be in the right position and they did just that. Brian Hance, Ben Micinilio and Tim Seymour were all near the lead.
In the end Seymour took second overall in 12:01, Micinillio time of 12:11 was good for a bronze, and Hance placed fifth overall in a time of 12:17.
Trumbull also had strong performances from Tejas Kulkarni, Zach Iannucci, Josh Cappello and Kyle Zielinski.
Top 15 finishers took home medals for their effort and the team received a plaque for its first-place finish.
