Cross country: St. Joseph fares well at Amherst
The St. Joseph boys cross country team placed 22nd at Saturday's Amherst Invitational at Hampshire College in Amherst (Mass).
The Cadets had real strong finishes from senior Jack Moulder and junior Brian Dineen. Moulder placed 96th in 18:31 and Dineen placed 105th in 18:50.
In the 158-runner varsity race, St. Joseph also got solid performances from sophomore Mike Zannis (135th, 19:53), senior Nicholas Russo (137th, 19:57), junior Anthony Crocco (142nd, 20:06) and sophomore Sean Yankocy (146th, 20:27).
In the junior varsity race, Manuel Garzon (137th, 20:37) was the top Cadet finisher, while senior John Wypchoski placed 162nd in 21:07 and sophomore Dante Criscio placed 177th in 21:21.
Senior Mike DeVore placed 188th in 21:32 and sophomore Garrett Kalker placed 211th in 21:59.
Additional finishers included: senior Joe Griffin (276th, 23:37), sophomore Ben Kallsen (280th, 23:42), sophomore Luke Healy (299th, 24:40) and sophomore Igor Poliwoda (314th, 26:16).
In the freshmen race, Paul Fabbri placed 75th in 21:57 and Tim Gavrish placed 113th in 24:07. Shane Fitzgerald placed 119th in 24:36 and Ethan Novicio placed 137th in 26:07.
"We had some really good performances at Amherst," Cadet coach David Scrivines said. "We generally perform really well, due to mental conditioning and a fast out-of-region competition."
St. Joseph travels to Ridgefield on Sept. 20 to battle Ridgefield, Darien, and McMahon.
