College wrestling: Anderson, Briganti at Invitational

Trumbull High alums Ben Anderson and Stephen Briganti competed at the Roger Williams Wrestling Invitational in Rhode Island on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Anderson, a senior at Roger Williams, opened at 149 pounds with a pin in 1:48 over Norwich’s Connor Gobeille. In the second round Anderson lost a 5-4 decision to Ohio Northern’s Gavin Nelson. In the consolation bracket, Bridgewater State’s Andrew Szilagyi defeated Anderson 5-0.

Briganti, a freshman at Norwich (VT), posted a 4:45 pin of Bridgewater’s Matthew Provost in his first bout. Dan Ressler from Roger Williams then won by fall in 4:10. In the consolation round, Briganti advanced with a 4-0 decision over Messiah College’s Tyler Hershey, before losing a 3-2 decision to Austin Windle from Ohio Northern.

Roger Williams won the Invitational title.
