Cadets' Mangiamele wins game at buzzer

Joe Mangiamele buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give coach Chris Watts’ St. Joseph High boys basketball team a 73-70 victory over Brien McMahon in Norwalk on Friday night.

Mangiamele’s basket completed a back-and-forth contest, which saw St. Joseph lead 16-14 after one period and trail 35-34 at the half. McMahon took a 52-50 advantage into the final quarter.

Mike Sulik scored 20 points for the Cadets (2-10). Anthony Burden had 26 points for McMahon (3-10).

St. Joseph’s Omar Telfer finished with 17 points, Tyshon Williams 13, Camren Menefee nine and Mangiamele eight.

Sulik, Telfer and Williams had nine rebounds each.

Aaron Sells had three assists and Sulik drew a charge.

There were 13 threes made in the game. McMahon had seven shots from long range, led by three from Joseph Cantey (15 points). David Civil finished with 16 points.
