Boys tennis: Short-handed Trumbull takes on Warde

Perseverance is what defines the Trumbull High boys tennis team.

With some of the players from the regular lineup out for spring break, coach Vanessa Costeines’ Eagles strategically battled Fairfield Warde, before dropping a 5-2 decision to the Mustangs on Wednesday.

Posting victories for Trumbull were Coenraads at No. 4 singles and No. 5 Shravan Wadhwa in the No. 5 singles match.

"We need to do what’s best for the team and make sure we play our hardest even if the odds are against us," Trumbull captain Alex Coenraads said.

Singles: Jack Johnson (F) def Anubhav Dhar (T), 6-1, 6-0; Henry Johnson (F) def Lalith Gannavaram (T) 6-1, 6-0; Matt Mosher (F) def Anush Sureshbabu (T) 6-2, 6-3; Alex Coenraads (T) def. Noah Grodu (F) 6-1, 7-6 (tie breaker: 7-5); Shravan Wadhwa (T) def. Sam Greenberg (F) 6-3, 6-1.

Doubles: Eddie Li and Ethan Wolf (F) def Nihal Wadhwa and Benjamin Bello (T) 6-0,6-1; Kyle Rubin and Cormac O’day (F) def Rushil Ahuja and Matthew Nusom (T) 6-0, 6-4.

Trumbull will next visit New Canaan on Monday at 4 p.m.
