A five-goal outburst in the second period and Brady Jensen’s hat trick propelled the Trumbull High boys hockey team to a 7-2 triumph over Masuk High at the Rinks at Shelton on Monday.

Masuk’s Brian Denham had two goals, including the first of the game, assisted by Adam Montague. Will O’Brien scored with just 1:20 remaining in the first period for the Eagles and the game was even at a goal heading into the middle stanza.

Twice in the second period, Trumbull had two goals scored less than a minute apart. Jake Liebowitz and Eric McCabe found the back of the net at 3:16 and 3:50 of the second; both goals were assisted by John Therriault.

Jensen’s first tally of the game extended the lead to 4-1 8:03 into the period, and Dustin Maher tallied just 38 seconds later. Jensen answered Denham’s late-period net-finder as the Eagles established a 6-2 lead through two periods of play.

In the third, Jenson potted his third tally on assists from Martin Bimbach and O’Brien.

Trumbull outshot Masuk 38-31.

Will Guttman made 29 saves for the Eagles; Masuk goalie Tag Weiss stopped 31 shots.
