Brady Jensen scored the tying goal just before the horn sounded to end the third period, and the Trumbull High boys hockey team salvaged a 2-2 tie with East Haven at The Rinks at Shelton on Wednesday night.
The equalizer came during a 6-on-4 player advantage resulting from East Haven’s second five-minute major penalty of the night.
Trumbull pulled goaltender Will Guttman for an extra attacker.
Both teams generated scoring chances in the eight-minute overtime stanza, especially the Eagles in the first half of the extra session as 4:45 of the power play time carried over.
East Haven had taken 2-1 lead on a goal by Joe Aloi with only 58 seconds left in regulation.
Trumbull trailed 1-0 on East Haven’s goal scored by Nick Latella, but tied the score on a net-finder by Matt Mocker, assisted by Jensen, with 6:44 remaining in the second period.
Mocker and John Therriault kept pressure on the East Haven net late in regulation, helping set up Jensen’s tying tally.
