St. Joseph opened its season with a 73-64 road victory over Kolbe Cathedral in the first round of the Trinity Catholic Holiday Tournament in Stamford on Friday.

Steve Paolini scored 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks for coach Kevin Wielk’s Cadets.

Jared Grindrod scored 15 points with eight rebounds, four assists and didn’t turn the ball over.

Jason James had 12 points and Paul Fabbri nine.

Dan Tobin scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds.

Tyler Dubose blocked two shots.

TaeShaun Sanchez scored 15 points to lead coach John Pfohl’s Cougars.
