Webster Bank Arena has announced that the third annual MLK Basketball Classic will be held Monday, Jan. 16.
The annual tradition will feature five boy’s high school games from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. in downtown Bridgeport.
“We are proud and delighted to once again host the MLK Classic,” said Charlie Dowd, Sr. Vice President of Operations at Webster Bank Arena. “The basketball is tremendous and the games provide the young men with a great opportunity to shine in the spotlight at Webster Bank Arena. To be able to combine basketball with the educational aspect of Dr. Martin Luther King and his life is extremely rewarding.”
The schedule finds St. Joseph playing Wilton High at 11 a.m., Notre Dame-West Haven playing East Haven at 1 p.m., Bridgeport Central playing Career of New Haven at 3 p.m., Wilbur Cross of New Haven playing Harding High at 5 p.m., and Bassick High playing Hamden High at 7 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at each of the participating schools for $10, or at the door for $12 on Jan. 16. Courtside seats are also available for $25 at the Webster Bank Arena Click It or Ticket Box Office. Tickets are good for all five games throughout the day.
In addition to the on-court entertainment, Webster Bank Arena will focus its off-court experience on the life and legacy of Dr. King. During and between games, fans will be treated to vignettes and interviews pertaining to Dr. King, his work and his lasting impact. This year, the life of Muhammad Ali will be commemorated as well.
Webster Bank Arena is pleased to announce the support of the Bridgeport Field of Dreams Foundation, Subway, WYBC and the City of Bridgeport as sponsors of this year’s MLK Basketball Classic.
In addition to the tournament, a luncheon for the players and coaches will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, featuring Quinnipiac University head men’s basketball coach Tom Moore as a guest speaker.
