Baseball: Trumbull sweeps Norwalk
Trumbull defeated Norwalk, 3-2, to complete a sweep of its American Legion Zone 4 baseball three-game series on Thursday.
With the win, Post 141 improved to 15-4. Norwalk is now 8-10.
Peter Rousso went 5.2 innings to garner the win. He allowed three hits and one of the runs against him was unearned.
Nikko Arganese retired three of the four batters he faced on strikes to earn the save.
Norwalk’s Mike Boguski scattered nine hits in a complete game effort. He struck out five and only one of Trumbull’s runs was earned.
Norwalk broke through in the bottom of the third inning.
Walks to Jared Smith and Dan Romaniello and an infield error gave Norwalk the 1-0 lead.
Trumbull scored three runs in the top of the sixth.
Zach Sagar reached on an error and stole second before Kris DiCocco knocked him in with a one-out single.
Dino DiGirolamo doubled him home, and one out later, Daniel Mendez lined an RBI double to take the score to 3-1.
Paul Salata drew a leadoff walk in the Norwalk sixth. Rousso enticed a pop up to short, before Ryan Evans singled.
Chris Cotaling lined a hit off Rousso to load the bases, but Rousso got a fly ball for the second out.
Mike Gonzalez worked out a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-2, before Arganese came on to leave the bases loaded with a strikeout.
Trumbull will begin a three-game series with a visit to Westport’s Staples High on Tuesday at 5:45.
