Stamford Post 3 scored an unearned run in the second inning and that was all it took to defeat Trumbull Post 141 in an American Legion Zone IV baseball showdown at Trumbull High on Sunday.

Grant Stone threw a two-hitter for Stamford, now 15-2.

Danny Keckler allowed four hits and struck out five for Trumbull, now 15-4 with three losses by one run.

Stone, who struck out five, left the bases loaded (two walks, hit batter) in the first inning.

In the second inning, Peter Horn reached on a fielding error and Michael White singled to right.

Shawn Urbano sacrificed the runners up a base and Horn scored on a fielder’s choice grounder.

Simon Whiteman led off the Trumbull third with a single over shortstop and Dustin Sequeira bunted him to second. Stone got a pair of infield grounders to end the threat.

Stamford put a pair of two-out hits together in the fifth only to be denied when a double steal try was thwarted.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Chris O’Brien had a pinch-hit single but was stranded on a ground out to third.

Trumbull is back in action at home Tuesday vs Norwalk at 5:30.
