Baseball: Connor Smith to play at UMass-Amherst
Connor Smith of Trumbull has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst).
“The opportunity to play Division I baseball has always been a dream of mine, and today I reached that dream,” said Smith. “I want to thank my coaches at Technique Tiger Baseball Academy for expecting more out of me everyday and making me into a leader.
“I also want to thank my family for the opportunity to attend Canterbury for a post-graduate year. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. And lastly, I would like to thank my long time coach and friend Brett Conner for guiding me through the recruiting process and helping me get into college.”
Smith's summer statistics include a batting average of .468, six home runs, 58 RBI’s and 53 hits. Last summer, he participated in the Prep Baseball Report Showcase, where he had 1.92 pop time and 83 mph velocity as a catcher. He also had a 95 exit velocity while hitting.
Smith is a 2015 Trumbull High School graduate.
