Matt Baccaro tossed a four-hitter and the Trumbull Post 141 American Legion baseball team defeated Fairfield Post 143, 8-0, on Saturday.

Baccaro needed only 69 pitches, 49 of them for strikes, to boost Trumbull pitching staff's shut out string to four straight games.

Luke Waldek had three hits and drove in four runs, as Post 141 improved their record to 12-2.

Zach Sagar had three hits and three RBIs. Simon Whiteman scored three runs. Stanley Wolpiuk and Whiteman had two hits each.

Trumbull took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Whiteman singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Waldek’s sacrifice fly.

Mark Hirschbeck restarted the inning with a single and hustled to second when the ball was misplayed in the outfield. Sagar singled him home.

Trumbull made it 5-0 in the second inning.

Brian Hnatuk and Joe Nemchek drew walks and Whiteman had a bunt single to load the bases. Waldek cleared the bags with a three-run triple.

In the fourth, Whiteman was hit by a pitch and stole second. An attempted pickoff attempt hit him and he advanced to third for Waldek, who singled him home.

Hirschbeck reached on a fielder’s choice and later crossed the plate on Sagar’s single on an 0-2 pitch.

Leading 7-0, Trumbull added a run in the sixth. Waldek doubled and scored on Sagar’s two-out single.

Fairfield (2-13) threatened in the third after a two-out single and a walk, but Hirschbeck caught a pop up to second to end the inning.

Trumbull will host Fairfield in a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
