Babe Ruth: Unbeaten Trumbull 13s play Fairfield today

The Trumbull Babe Ruth 13 year olds won their first two games in the District Tournament.

Manager Mike Buswell’s club defeated Wilton 14-5 on Friday and Norwalk 10-8 on Sunday.

Trumbull will play Fairfield in the winner’s bracket final today at 4 p.m. at Nathan Hale Field in Norwalk.

Fairfield defeated Stratford, 6-2, to advance.

Trumbull scored the final eight runs of the game to separate itself from Wilton. Leading 6-5=, the locals posted six runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth.

Ray Leonzi (double, triple, three RBIs), Jack Allen (triple, two RBIs), Ryan Teixeira (two RBIs), John Morello (two RBIs) and Jake Gruttadauria had two hits each.

Brandon Buda got the win and Ryan Carroll came on in the fifth. Jackson Vicente did the catching.

Trumbull led Norwalk 8-7 through five innings. They scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held off a one-run rally in the seventh by Norwalk.

Vicente had three hits and two RBIs. Allen and Leonzi each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Buda had two hits and a RBI.

Robert Goldstein got the win and Leonzi came on in relief in the sixth to get the save. Vicente and Christian Van Zyl did the catching.
