Trumbull Babe Ruth advanced to the 15U state tournament finals with a 2-1 victory over Milford on Thursday night.
Trumbull will now face host East Lyme at the high school on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The locals need to defeat unbeaten East Lyme to force an if game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Trumbull’s Evan Warner set the tone for the Milford game in the first inning by striking out the first two batters and then inducing a pop up to Stephen Ioli at second.
Milford’s lone run of the game came in the third inning off a bases loaded error that scored Scott Monforte.
Trumbull answered in the bottom half of the third.
Ioli hit a deep shot just over the center fielder’s glove for a lead-off double. The next batter, Thomas Krois, laid down a bunt moving Ioli over to third where he scored on an overthrow from the pitcher to first.
With the score 1-0, Beau DeMelo laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Krois to second. Tim Seymour then laced a grounder up the middle to score Krois. The second inning would end with Trumbull taking the lead 2-1.
Jake Teixeira relieved Warner in the fourth inning and pitched three hitless innings.
Alex Chopskie pitched three straight ground ball outs in the seventh to seal the victory for Trumbull.
