
The Trumbull Babe Ruth 14U All-Star team won the District II championship with a 6-5 victory over Norwalk at Brien McMahon High on Monday.
Manager Zach Philippas’ club will next compete in the state tournament that begins in Newtown on Friday, July 8.
Trumbull scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The locals added a run in the third and fourth innings. Norwalk stormed back to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Trumbull took the lead for good in the sixth.Kevin Flewelling walked, stole second, and scored the go-ahead run on Greg Kaufmann’s sacrifice fly.
Brian Hance had two hits and drove in two runs.
Robert Goldsmith had two hits and Dan Finizio had a double.
Bobby Capone got the save after coming on in relief in the seventh.
Peter Weaver pitched shutout ball for four innings. Joe Defusco, who came on in relief in the fifth, got the win.
