Trumbull's McLean leads boys hockey to dominate win over Staples in opener

Trumbull’s Jack McLean scored three goals, two of them coming in a 4-goal second period, when coach Greg Maxey’s Eagles opened their season with an 8-3 victory over Staples at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Trumbull led 1-0 on Peter Antoniou’s goal after one period.

Brennan Cutter’s unassisted goal early in the second doubled the margin.

McLean (from John Guerrera), Josh Liebowitz (from Colin Franzen), and McLean in the last minute (from Guerrera) took the score to 5-0.

Grayson Chopskie, Zach Jager and Owen Finnegan lit the light in the third for an 8-0 advantage.

Guerrera finished with two goals and two assists.

Alex Chopskie made 15 saves.

Stephanos Galatas made 3 saves.
