Leaderboard: Annika Sorenstam and Dana Ebster (5-under-67); Kris Tschetter (69); Liselotte Neumann (70).

Shot of the day: Amateur Martha Leach aced on the par-3 15th, using a 9-iron for the 120-yard shot.

Pairing to watch: The easy choice would be Annika Sorenstam, Liselotte Neumann and Laura Davies, but they were chosen for Thursday. So let’s go with the approximate afternoon pairing of Jan Stephenson, Jerilyn Britz and Martha Leach. Both Stephenson and Britz, the 1979 U.S. Women’s Open champion at Brooklawn CC, are in danger of missing the cut and both players said this could be it for them for competitive golf — or at least in a major championship setting. So they would be worth the watch.
