HS update: Wasikowski throws no-no, St. Joe’s tops Trumbull

Lauren Wasikowski pitched a no-hitter and struck out 11 when St. Joseph defeated Trumbull 8-2.

Niamh Dougherty had four hits, including a home run for the Cadets, now 9-5, 7-2 FCIAC. Kelsea Flanagan hit a home run.

Caroline Hall’s base running in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Trumbull to a 5-4 win over Wilton.

Hall singled and was sacrificed to second by CC Cummings. She took off for third on Maura Carbone’s fly ball to right. Hall kicked the ball out of the glove of the fielder and dove home safely as the Eagles improved to 11-3, 7-2 in FCIAC play.

Melanie DiFabio had a double and an RBI. Hall had two hits and scored two runs. Cummings had two hits.

DiFabio had two hits and drove in two runs when Trumbull topped Stamford 7-4. Lianna Weaver doubled and had two RBIs. Carbone had two hits and drove in two runs.

Trumbull baseball

Connor Johnston held Staples to four hits and one run in the Eagles’ 5-1 victory. It was the seventh straight win for Trumbull, now 10-4, 7-2 FCIAC. Logan Huzi had a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Jack Ligouri hit a double and drove in a run.

St. Joseph baseball

The Cadets pounded out an 11-1 win over Westhill behind a 14-hit attack. Riley Jordan had two doubles and scored two runs for St. Joe’s (8-5, 5-3 FCIAC). Sebastian Sampieri drove in two runs on two hits and scored a run against the host Vikings (8-5, 6-1 FCIAC). Michael Fiatarone had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Matt Tabet pitched one-run ball into the seventh to get the win. Nick Coppola pitched a scoreless seventh. Darien beat St. Joe’s 7-4. Jordan doubled, tripled, homered, scored two runs and plated a pair. Will Singewald hit a home run.

St. Joseph girls’ lacrosse

Izzy Casucci scored three goals in a 16-4 loss to New Canaan. Maddigan Leifer had a goal. Emily Robinson made seven saves.

Trumbull boys’ volleyball

Trumbull swept its eighth straight opponent when the Eagles defeated Norwalk 25-16, 25-14, 25-15 to up its record to 15-1 and 8-1 in FCIAC. Austin Ashby had nine kills, Matt Cherfane and Kieran O’Sullivan eight each, Sean Ferris seven and Brennan Cutter six. They won 3-0 over Staples, led by Cutter (14 kills. 6 blocks), Ashby (11 kills, 7 digs), O'Sullivan (10 kills, 5 blocks) and Derek Ploski (12 digs, 6 aces). Cherfane had nine digs and an ace and Jacob Nyitrai five aces in a 3-0 win over Danbury.

St. Joseph boys’ lacrosse

Sam Rosa and Rafael Katts each scored two goals for St. Joe’s in its 15-5 loss to New Canaan. Johnny Karafa had a goal and Rosa an assist as the Cadets dipped to 6-4. Tyler Stiewing stopped 10 shots by the 8-4 Rams.

Trumbull girls golf

Erica Laurentino and Lindsay Bake had matching 47s when Trumbull lost to Amity 190-195 at Racebrook Country Club. Grace Gold shot a 49 and Devyn Genet a 52.
