HS update: St. Joseph softball powers way to victory

Niamh Dougherty was 4 for 4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored in a 10-0 victory over Warde for 4-0 St. Joseph. Jill Guilfoyle (3 RBIs) and Kelsea Flanagan (2 RBIs) each hit a home run. Lauren Wasikowski gave up three hits and struck out 12.

Guilfoyle and Wasikowski each drove in five runs in a five-inning victory over Stamford. Wasikowski (home run) struck out 13 and gave up two hits. Janelli Pratts hit a home run and drove in three. Lauren Davis had three hits and an RBI. Guilfoyle and Davis had doubles. Dougherty had two hits and scored four runs.

Trumbull softball

Maura Carbone went 4 for 4 and Jenna Duffy drove in four runs with three hits in a 14-0 win over Westhill. Becca Sexton struck out seven in the five-inning game. Julia Telep and CC Cummings each had three hits. Caroline Hall had three hits, Lia Goldstein two hits and three RBIs, and Carbone hit a pair of triples, scored two runs, and had an RBI when Trumbull lost to Shelton 13-7. Duffy and Sexton had two hits each. Telep tripled and drive in two runs in a 6-5 win over Staples. Carbone had two hits. Hall scored twice and had an RBI. Sexton struck out nine. Carbone had three hits, including a home run, when unbeaten Danbury defeated the Eagles 8-4. Melanie DiFabio, Sexton and Telep had two hits each.

St. Joseph girls’ lacrosse

Maddigan Leifer scored four goals with four assists in an 18-4 win over Bethel. Meghan Hoynes had two goals and five assists. Izzy Casucci scored four goals with two assists. Casey Mayglothing had three goals and Autumn Murphy two. Hannah Siljamaki (assist), Mallory Doyle, and Camryn Tomey had one goal each. Bridget Connolly made three saves. The Cadets lost 10-5 to Ludlowe. Casucci had three goals and Hoynes four assists. Leifer and Siljamaki had goals. Connolly made four saves.

Trumbull girls’ golf

Erica Laurentino was medalist with a 40 when Trumbull defeated Wilton 171-195 at Silvermine. Lindsay Baker shot a 43, Grace Codd 44 and Sara Holmes 44.

Trumbull boys’ volleyball

Trumbull defeated Staples 3-2 to finish their non-conference schedule at 7-0. The scores were 20-25, 25-12, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9. The Eagles were led by Brennan Cutter (17 kills, 3 blocks), Austin Ashby (8 kills, 17 digs), Kieran O'Sullivan (15 kills) and Matt Cherfane (14 digs). The Eagles defeated the Newington Nor'easters 3-0. Ashby (10 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces), Cutter (9 kills) and O'Sullivan (9 kills) led the way. Derek Ploski added 10 digs and 4 aces. Trumbull defeated New Canaan 3-1. Cerfane had 16 digs, Cutter 18 kills and nine blocks, and Ben Leeds 22 digs, nine kills and nine blocks.
