Simon Whiteman from Trumbull has returned to his backyard to play baseball.

Whiteman scored the tying run when the Richmond Flying Squirrels rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Hartford Yard Goats, 5-4, on Wednesday.

Whiteman was a 9th round draft choice as a middle infielder by the San Francisco Giants out of Yale in 2019.

Whiteman was promoted from the Giants’ High-A Eugene Emeralds to Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels on June 14.

Richmond (24-20) will play Hartford (13-31) tonight at 7:15 p.m. in the third of a six-game series through Sunday at Dunkin Donuts Park.

Whiteman’s on-base percentage of .413 was sixth in the High-A West League before he was sent to Richmond in the Double A Northeast League.

He was third in stolen bases with 17.

His .984 fielding percentage was second best in the High-A West.
