Trumbull’s Holden, Kathryn Marchand place at indoor track State Open

Trumbull senior Kali Holden placed third in the 1000-meter run and sophomore Kathryn Marchand was fifth in the 3200-meter run at the State Open girls’ indoor track championships.

Holden’s time of 3:01.55 and Marchand’s 11:13.52 continued a strong season for the duo.

Holden took home three medals from the Class LL girls’ indoor track championship meet.

Marchand medaled with fifth place finishes in the 1600-meter run (5:23.68) and the 3200 (11:30.19).

Holden’s time of 2:59.03 was second to Glastonbury’s Brooke Strauss 2:58.32. The senior was third in 5:10.78 in the 1600-meter run. She placed fourth in the 3200-meter run in 11:27.72.

“It is difficult to double in two distance races, but Kali’s triple not only showed that she is one of the best track athletes in the state but also helped the team immensely in terms of our seventh-place finish,” Trumbull coach Nick Banks said. “Kali also set a new school record in the 1000.”

Alyssa Andrews finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.8 seconds.

Brooke Rubush was eighth in the shot put.

Sophia Bennett, Ella Peterson, Evelyn Marchand and Ava Meagher placed eighth in the 4x400 relay.
