Trumbull lowers times at New Balance Games

Trumbull’s girls and boys indoor track & field teams have competed in three FCIAC qualifying meets to start the season.

“These guys are working very hard,” said boys’ coach Shawn Tait who greeted 110 athletes on the first day. “We have to practice outside everyday regardless of the elements. I’ve been really impressed by the dedication and work ethic demonstrated by these boys. Every day they are ready to go after it.”

Elliot Miller and Bronson Vo are team captains.

“There aren't enough words to say about these two leaders,” Tait said. “Elliot has qualified for states in three events. He ran a personal record of 37.58 in 300 meters. Elliot is on our 4x400 and 4x200 relay teams that are both currently ranked top four in Class LL. Bronson is our leader in the distance events. He has qualified for states in the 1600 and 3200.”

Mohammed Abunar is ranked third in Class LL in the 1600. He won the North Shore Classic in New York with time of 4:31.33.

Liam O'Keefe has qualified for states in the 300-meter run (37.69) and is part of those 4x400 and 4x200 relay teams. Freud-Williams Magnan, another relay standout, has qualified for states in the 600-meters run. Matt Wich is on the 4x400 team and has qualified for FCIACS in the 600.

Michael Prizzio and Angelo Pisacreta have qualified for states in the shot put. David Carillo is qualified in the 3200 and Evan Dadson in the 55-meter hurdles.

Trumbull took part in the New Balance Games held at the Armory Track and Field Center (NY) on Saturday.

Girls’ results

Kali Holden earned three fifth-place finishes. Holden was fifth in the Varsity 1000-meter final with a personal record (pr) time of 3:04.13. She also took fifth in the 1500 Invitational (pr 4:51.86) and the 1-Mile Invitational (pr 5:12.18). Holden was seventh in the 3000-meter Invitational (pr 10:36.60) and eighth in the 2-mile Invitational (pr 11:25.19).

The Varsity 4x400 relay team of Evelyn Marchand, Ella Peterson, Ishita Singh and Sophia Bennett were 8th in 4:32.02.

Kathryn Marchand was 10th in the 2-mile Invitational with a pr time of 11:44.42. She ran a pr time of 11:00.085 in the 3000-meter Invitational.

Abigail Poplawski was 11th with a personal record time of 11:45.92 in the Varsity 3000-meter finals. She was 13th in the Varsity 2-mile run in a pr time of 12:39.56.

Evelyn Marchand took 12th with a time of 1:42.36 in the Varsity 600-meter run.

Sophia Bennett was 14th in the Varsity C 300-meter run with a pr of 46.25 followed by Ella Peterson (48.25), Ishita Singh (pr 49.45) and Jayleen Harrison (pr 50.53).

In the Varsity shot put, Brook Rubush was 17th (27.01.75) and Celine Bozukluian ran a 22-04.75.

Chloe Abellard ran a 7.98 in the Varsity 55-meter dash prelims followed by Celine Bozukluian (pr 8.26), Jayleen Harrison (8.35) and Sophia Bennett (8.38).

In the 55-meter hurdles prelims, Celine Bozukluian was 22nd in 9.96 seconds, followed by Kate Macfarlane (pr 10.07) and Ella Peterson (10.28).

Boys’ results

Sebastian Perez ran a pr 39.10 to place third in the Varsity C 300-meter run. Evan Dodson ran a pr 42.84.

Eliot Miller and Colin Csizmadia tied for ninth in the Varsity high jump with personal best jumps of 5.07.

Miller placed 10th in the Varsity B 300-meter run with a personal best (pr) time of 37.58. Liam O’Keefe was 11th in 37.69 pr.

Bronson Vo placed 12th in the 2-mile Varsity race with a personal best time of 10:02.55. David Carillo was 26th in a pr of 10:19.54.

Mohammed Abunar was 14th in the 1500-meter run Invitational finals in a personal best time of 4:15.83. He took 15th (pr 4:33.93) in the One-Mile Invitational.

Sebastian Perez, Freud-Williams Maginon, Mat Wich and Liam O’Keefe ran a 3:40.12 to take 14th in the Varsity 4x400 relay.

The 4x400 Varsity relay team of Jack DiGiovanni, Eliot Miller, Freud-Williams Maignon and Liam O’Keefe took 17th in 1:37.60.

In the Varsity shot put, Michael Prizio was 18th at 38.05.50, followed by Matthew DeFilippas (pr 36-01.25), Angelo Pisacreta (35-07), James Biondi (32.08.25) and Nikolaos Konstantinidis (32-03.75).

Varujan Edwards was 22nd in a pr 4:24.36 in the 1500-meter run. He placed 23rd in a pr 4:43.72 in the one-mile run.

Nathan Beldoro (7.33 seconds), William Carroll (7.45 pr) and Jack DiGiovanni (7.46 pr) competed in the 55-meter dash prelims.

Evan Dodson and Ryan Berkowitz ran personal best times of 8.66 and 9.40 seconds, respectively, in the 55-meter hurdles varsity prelims.

In the Varsity 600-meter finals, Freud-Williams Maignan had a pr 1:31.07. Matt Wich ran a pr 1:34.11 and Ian David a pr 1:37.68.

In the Varsity 1000-meter finals Ryan Klaiber ran a pr of 2:54.17 followed by Conor Kane (pr 2:57.21), Peter Stofa (pr 2:58.94) and Johannes Rysse (pr 3:08.21).
