Trumbull girls win twice in cross country quad meet

The Trumbull High girls’ cross country program, ranked seventh in the latest SoundRUNNER Connecticut High School Coaches Poll, recorded two wins in a FCIAC quad meet at New Canaan’s Waveny Park.

The Eagles defeated host New Canaan, 26-30, and Danbury, 23-35.

Third-ranked Ridgefield outpointed Trumbull, 21-35.

Trumbull had five of its runner’s place in the top 19 of the 70-runner field.

Senior captain Kali Holden led the way, finishing third overall in the 4,000-meter race with a time of 15:05.

Senior captain Evelyn Marchand finished seventh (16:06).

Junior Abigail Poplawski was12th (16:24).

Sophomores Bridget Walsh (16:26) and Isabel O’Brien (16:49), finished 13th and 19th, respectively.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday when they travel to crosstown rival St. Joseph to face the Cadets, Staples and Westhill in a FCIAC quad meet.
