Trumbull field hockey plays Wilton to overtime draw

Trumbull and Wilton played to a scoreless tie in a FCIAC field hockey contest at McDougall Stadium on Thursday evening.

Neither team had many offensive chances during regulation as Wilton held a slight 7-6 shot advantage.

In overtime, as play went to six field players plus a goalie, Wilton controlled possession but the Eagles’ defensive play, led by seniors Alannah Fleming and Lyndsay Guzzetta and sophomore Ava Consla, kept the game scoreless.

With 3:34 remaining in overtime, the Warriors had their best offensive chance, clearing the ball to create a 3-on-1 advantage, but Trumbull junior goalie Jenny Flynn came up with a big save to stop the threat.

Flynn finished the game with seven saves.

Wilton goalie Eva Filipponi made three saves.

It was the first time in recent memory that Trumbull had earned a point versus Wilton. The Warriors entered the game with a 13-game winning streak against the Eagles, dating back to 2006.

Trumbull returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Fairfield Ludlowe for a 10 a.m. start.
