Trumbull field hockey defeats FCIAC foe Danbury

Junior Maura Carbone scored two goals and senior Maddy Minella added one as Trumbull defeated Danbury, 3-0, in a FCIAC field hockey contest at McDougall Stadium on Tuesday.

Minella got the Eagles on the board with 4:29 left in the first half when she poked home a loose ball in front of the cage. It was Minella’s first career goal.

Carbone scored both of her goals in the second half.

With 7:13 left in the third quarter, Carbone scored off an assist from junior Kayla Barbagallo. Carbone then made it 3-0 with 2:46 left in the fourth quarter when she redirected a Lyndsay Guzzetta shot off an Eagles’ penalty corner.

Carbone leads the Eagles with eight goals on the season.

Barbagallo and Guzzetta are tied for the team with three assists each.

Danbury goalie Rina Fernandez made 13 saves.

Trumbull recognized its 10senior student-athletes - Guzzetta, Minella, Caroline Pagliaro, Rania Ahmad, Emma Dubreuil, Megan Smith, Molly Mellinger, Isabelle Sinise, Morgan Rizzo and Alannah Fleming -- in a pre-game ceremony.

Trumbull returns to action on Thursday when it travels to play top-ranked Darien at 4 p.m.
