Trumbull falls in 15U Babe Ruth World Series semifinal

Trumbull lost a 6-4 decision to Mifflin County (PA) in the 15-year-old Babe Ruth World Series semifinals in Eagle Pass (TX).

Tri-Valley (Calif), the Pacific Southwest champions, defeated Mifflin from the Middle Atlantic 9-1 to earn the title. Tri-Valley had defeated Meridian (MS) from the Southeast 11-2 in its semi.

Trumbull, the New England champion, scored three runs to tie Mifflin in the fourth inning.

“D.J. Amaral got us on the board with a single,” Trumbull manager Mike Buswell said. “Jackson DePino drew a walk to bring the second run in. Jack Durland’s sacrifice fly made it 3-3.”

Trumbull, which finished the postseason 8-1, took the lead on Sean Francoeur’s sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Mifflin scored three runs in the seventh to advance.

Amaral (RBI, run scored), Jake Hull (single), Matt Wood (single), Ryan Warner (three walks) and Francoeur (two walks, RBI, run scored) led the offense.

Francoeur pitched six innings, striking out six, giving up six hits and two earned runs.
