Trumbull defeats Pomperaug in season opener

Trumbull scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Pomperaug, 6-5, in its season opener in Southbury.

Becca Sexton struck out 10 batters, hit a triple, and drove in a run. She allowed three hits in her varsity debut.

CC Cummings had three hits and scored two runs. Jenna Duffy had a double and an RBI.

Coach Jacqui Sheftz’ Eagles graduated All-State players Mackenzie Bruggeman (Assumption College) and Cassi Barbato (Radford University), a pair of .500 hitters, from its 14-4 team that advanced to the state semifinals. It is also without senior outfielder Kiley Barbagallo, lost to an end of June injury from the travel ball circuit.

JT Telep has moved to the outfield after being the DP as a freshman.

Senior Mel Difabio is the catcher.

Junior Lia Goldstein, freshman Ava Mullen and freshman Kady Middeker provide depth.
