St. Joseph softball defeats Harding in FCIAC playdown game

Brooke Buzzeo pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts when top-seeded St. Joseph opened the FCIAC playoffs with a 14-0 victory over No. 16 Harding in Trumbull on Friday.

St. Joseph, 16-0, will host either No. 9 Danbury (7-8) or No. 8 Norwalk (7-8) in the quarterfinals on Monday. Danbury will visit Norwalk on Saturday.

Janelli Pratts hit two home runs and finished with five RBIs.

Maddy Fitzgerald and Niamh Dougherty added home runs.

Buzzeo (two doubles) and Riley McDermott each had three hits.

Brittany Mairano, McDermott and Fitzgerald each hit a double.

Fitzgerald drove in two runs.
