HS update: St. Joseph’s Tabet shuts down Danbury

Matt Tabet threw a complete game when St. Joseph defeated Danbury 6-1 for its sixth win of the season in an FCIAC game played at Trumbull. Tabet allowed just one runs and six hits to the 8-2 Hatters. He pitched to contact, allowing his defense behind him to make plays, striking out just three. The junior also had two hits and scored two runs in the win. Will Singewald had two hits and two RBIs and Michael Fiatarone had two RBIs in the win.

Trumbull softball

CC Cummings led a 15-hit attack with four in a 15-2 win at Ridgefield. Caroline Hall had two hits and scored four runs. Lianna Weaver and Olivia DiCocco each had two hits. Becca Sexton tripled, homered. Sexton struck out nine when Trumbull improved to 6-2 when it defeated Darien 12-1. Melanie DiFabio was 4 for 4 with a double and plated four runners. Hall hit a home run and drove in three. Maura Carbone and DiCocco each had two hits. Trumbull lost 8-1 to Ludlowe, now 8-1, 5-0 FCIAC. Carbone and Julia Telep had two hits each for Trumbull (7-3, 3-2 FCIAC).

St. Joseph softball

St. Joseph defeated New Canaan 4-0 and lost to Masuk and Danbury by scores of 2-1. Kyra McCarthy drove in two runs and Lauren Wasikowski and Kelsea Flanagan had RBIs in the win over New Canaan. Wasikowski allowed two hits and struck out 15. Coco Bartone had an RBI in the fifth inning of the Masuk game for St. Joseph (6-4, 6-2 in state). Wasikowski gave up five hits and struck out 13. Flanagan gave St. Joe’s a 1-0 lead in the sixth when she knocked home Kendal Rogers. Danbury, now 10-0, scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Trumbull boys’ volleyball

A well-rounded team effort led by Brennan Cutter with 11 kills, Carson Brunone with 24 assists and Matt Cherfane with five aces led Trumbull to a 3-0 win over Stamford. Nyitrai added three aces and Austin Ashby five kills for the Eagles (9-1, 2-1 FCIAC. Cutter had 24 kills when Trumbull topped Westhill 3-1. Kieran O'Sullivan had 13 kills. Ashby had 11 kills and 16 digs. Sean Ferris had eight kills and 13 digs.
