St. Joseph cagersdefeat Norwalk

St. Joseph opened FCIAC play with a 60-36 girls’ basketball victory over Norwalk.

Izzy Casucci scored 18 points to lead the way as coach Chris Lindwall’s Cadets improved to 3-1.

Kirsten Rodrigues had 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Dennaye Hinds was tops on the boards with 11. She added two blocks.

Kate Rudini led the attack with seven assists to go with seven points and four steals.

Casucci had 10 rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

Erika Stephens and Kayla Angrand scored six points each.

Trumbull wrestling

Trumbull lost to Guilford on Saturday. Michael Pogany put coach Charlie Anderson’s Eagles on the board with a 10-0 major decision in his 126-pound bout. Andrew Grabinski pinned in 1:07 at 138 pounds. Luke Strong, a 145-pounder, earned a 7-3 decision.

Hayden Provencal pinned at 152 pounds. Lucas Cylwik won by 5:08 fall in his 220-pound match.

St. Joseph boys’ basketball

St. Joseph lost 52-44 to Stamford.

Derek Long led St. Joseph with 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the FCIAC opener for both teams. Will Syndor had 12 points for the Cadets (2-2). Dashawn Hall had two 3-pointers and scored seven points. Davion Pinn scored 12 points for the winning Black Knights (4-1. 1-0 FCIAC).

Trumbull boys’ basketball

Westhill used a productive first quarter to defeat Trumbull 70-52 in an FCIAC game in Stamford on Saturday.

Jeyson Slade, who scored 29 points, helped Westhill to a 21-4 lead.

Trumbull was led on offense by Connor Johnston (15 points), Sean Racette (10 points), and Ray Vicente (9 points). Racente was 6 for 6 from the foul line. Brandon Fowler scored seven points. Ben Miller connected on two 3-pointers.
