Roundup: St. Joseph’s Maxwell Warren 55-meter dash champion

St. Joseph’s Maxwell Warren was 55-meter dash champion at the Class M boys indoor track meet. Warren’s time of 6.64 seconds was best. Cadet teammate Roberto DaCosta was second in 6.73. Decosta also medaled with a 19-09 long jump to take third.

Trumbull boys’ basketball

Ray Vicente scored 20 points when Trumbull stayed in the chase for a state playoff berth with a 61-50 victory over Brian McMahon. Sean Racette had 17 points, including a 5-for-5 game from the foul line, and six rebounds. Vicente made four 3-pointers. Racette had two. Luca Antonio scored eight points with four assists. Connor Johnston had six points, seven rebounds and four assists. Trumbull lost to Barlow 44-42. Racette scored 12 points, Johnston 11 and Antonio 10. Trumbull lost to Warde 68-56 on Monday. Brandon Fowler led with eight points.

St. Joseph boys’ hockey

St. Joseph defeated West Haven 4-2. Goals by Johnny Karafa, MJ Torre and Trevor Kellogg gave the Cadets a 3-0 lead after two periods. The Westies closed within 3-2 before Joey Bisson scored with 58 seconds left in the third to secure the victory. Andrew Tata and Bisson each had two assists. Mark Husted-Edwards and Ryan Rooney also had assists. The Cadets lost to Ridgefield 4-1 and Darien 6-2. Bisson assisted by Husted-Edwards scored a goal in the second period versus Ridgefield (7-9-1). Cadem Mitchell, from Bisson, and Bisson, from Kellogg, scored goals against Darien (11-6-1).

St. Joseph boys’ basketball

Will Syndor scored a career-high 28 points when St. Joseph upset No. 4 Ridgefield 64-62. Ethan Long scored 15 points and Derek Long 14 as the 12-6 Cadets knocked off the 15-2 Tigers. Syndor had seven rebounds and blocked three shots. Ethan Long had four assists. It was the first FCIAC loss for 11-1 Ridgefield St. Joe’s moved to 9-4 in league play. Derek Long scored 19 points in a 76-71 win against Staples. Syndor had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ethan Long had 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Johnny Niv scored 11 points with five blocked shots. St. Joe’s defeated Greenwich 58-51 on Monday. Niv scored 20 points.

Trumbull girls’ basketball

Trumbull closed out its regular season with a 55-28 Senior Night win over Brien McMahon. Sarah Stolze scored 12 points and Emma Gentry 10 for the Eagles, 10-10 overall 8-7 FCIAC. Mary Lynch had eight points. Corinn Ouellette, Lily Seltenreich and Lauryn Wright had five points each. Emi Roberto, Sarah Stolze, Emma Gentry, Corinn Ouellette, Mary Lynch, Brooke Formanek and Mary DeCarlo were senior players and managers honored before the game. Trumbull, seeded eight, lost to top-seeded St. Joseph 48-29 in the FCIAC quarterfinals.
