New Canaan boys hockey closes out St. Joseph in third period

New Canaan scored a pair of goals in the third period to upend St. Joseph 5-1 in an FCIAC boys’ hockey game at the Darien Ice Rink on Saturday.

Johnny Karafa scored an unassisted goal to give St. Joseph the lead 2:32 into the matchup.

John Eccleston tied things 6 minutes later and New Canaan added two goals in each of the next two periods to improve to 3-1.

Tyler Stiewing made 33 saves for St. Joseph (1-4).

New Canaan’s Mason Pickering had 24 stops.
