Multiple winners lead Trumbull track past Stamford

The Trumbull boys and girls outdoor track teams registered dual-meet victories against FCIAC-rival Stamford on Tuesday afternoon at McDougall Stadium.

The Trumbull boys prevailed 139-7, earning first-place finishes in 17 of the 18 events.

Senior Matt Catuccio won three jumping events, the high jump (5’8), long jump (18’4) and triple jump (38’11).

Freshman Liam O’Keefe won the 400 meters in 52.7, which qualified him for the FCIAC and Class LL state championship meets.

Senior Jeremy Merkin won the pole vault, vaulting 13’0 - nearly two feet better than the FCIAC and Class LL state qualifier standards.

The Trumbull girls scored a 120-25 win. The Eagles earned first-place in 14 of the 18 events.

Junior Evelyn Marchand won the 400 and 3200 meters, while anchoring the Eagles’ victorious 4x400 relay team. Marchand’s 400 time (1:00.6) was a personal record and qualified her for both the FCIAC and Class LL state championship meets.

Senior Mikayla DePina won the 100- and 300-meter hurdle events. DePina’s 17.1 second finish in the 100-meter hurdles was a season best and qualified her for the FCIAC and Class LL state meets.

Junior Kali Holden registered a personal best in winning the 1600 meters (5:12.6).

Seniors Ella Consla (5:21.1) and Calyn Carbone (5:39.7) recorded personal bests in the 1600 meters and qualified for the FCIAC and Class LL state meets.

Trumbull return to action on Monday when the boys travel to Greenwich to face the Cardinals and St. Joseph. The girls will host the two schools at McDougall Stadium.
