Juniors lead Trumbull field hockey past Westhill

Three juniors - Kayla Barbagallo, Lexi Santoro and Maura Carbone - combined for four goals and three assists - when Trumbull defeated visiting Westhill, 4-0, in a FCIAC field hockey contest at McDougall Stadium on Saturday.

The Eagles dominated the contest offensively, outshooting the Vikings 34-1 and held an 18-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Trumbull took the lead just two minutes into the game when Santoro blasted a shot off a penalty corner, with the assist being credited to Barbagallo.

Four minutes later, Barbagallo made it 2-0 when she scored off an assist from senior Lyndsay Guzzetta.

Late in third quarter, Carbone redirected a Santoro shot on a penalty corner to make it 3-0. She finished out the scoring with 1:27 left when she deflected a Barbagallo shot into the cage.

Carbone finished with wo goals. Barbagallo had one goal and two assists. Santoro had one goal and one assist for the coach Colleen Filush’s Eagles, now 3-1.

Westhill goalie Kirstin Hallinan had a fine game, making 22 saves.

Eagles’ goalie Jenny Flynn made one save for the shut out.

Trumbull returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to face New Canaan at 4 p.m.
