The Trumbull hockey team battled North Branford down to the wire on Wednesday night at the Shelton Rink, but came up on the short side of a 3-2 final margin.

The 6-2 Thunderbirds proved to be a challenge for the 1-5 Eagles.

After a scoreless first period North Branford broke the deadlock with 1:41 left in the second period on a goal from Dylan Podbielski.

he final period turned into a frenzy, as the Eagles tied the game twice — on goals from Sam Watson at 13:28 and with 3:14 to go by Mike Antoniou.

But with just 15 seconds left on the clock, the T-Birds’ Alec Martone positioned himself in front of the net and took a pass off the boards from Podbielski and fired it to the back of the net to stun the Eagles.
