Trumbull residents George Bomann and Ian Hall completed the Casco Bay SwimRun held in Portland, Maine on Aug. 11.

A new style of race which started in Sweden in 2006, SwimRun racers swim throughout Casco Bay to several islands, and then run across the island, carrying all their gear with them.

As an added twist, racing partners are tethered together by a 12-foot bungee cord.

The race involved 2.5 miles of swimming and 11.5 of navigating a run course that consisted of sandy beach, shoreline scrambles, single track trails and island roads.

Swims between islands were challenging with tidal changes and fast-sweeping currents.

The pair completed the race in 4 hours, 8 minutes.
