Finnegan scores two goals, Trumbull boys hockey team tops St. Joseph

Owen Finnegan’s second goal of the came early in the third period to help separate Trumbull from St. Joseph in the Eagles’ 3-1 boys’ hockey win at the Rinks at Shelton on Thursday.

Finnegan provided the final goal, unassisted, as Trumbull improved to 4-1.

Assisted by Jack McLean and Tyler Hickey, Finnegan had given Trumbull a 1-0 lead 51 seconds into the second period.

Johnny Karafa, with assists going to Wyatt Chrisman and Mark Husted-Edwards, tied the game for St. Joseph (1-5) at the 3:40 mark of the period.

Nick Smagacz’s goal at 10:14 made it 2-1. Zach Jager had the assist.

Trumbull outshot St. Joseph 25-20.

Tyler Stiewing made 22 saves for Trumbull.

St. Joseph’s Grayson Chopskie had 19 saves.
