Roundup: St. Joseph’s Maxwell Warren Class M 55-meter champ

St. Joseph’s Maxwell Warren was 55-meter dash champion at the Class M boys indoor track meet.

Warren’s time of 6.64 seconds was best. Cadet teammate Roberto DaCosta was second in 6.73.

Decosta also medaled with a 19-09 long jump to take third.

Trumbull boys’ basketball

Connor Johnston scored 12 points to pace Trumbull to its 47-36 win against New Canaan on Monday. Sean Racette scored 11 points and combined with Johnston to go 10-of-13 from the foul line for coach Buddy Bray’s 6-10 Eagles. Ray Vincente and Luca Antonio each made 3-pointers and finished with seven points. Ben Miller and Ben Elmo added threes.

Trumbull girls’ basketball

Emma Gentry scored 12 points to pace the scoring in Trumbull’s 58-49 win at New Canaan on Monday. Lauryn Wright had 11 points and Corinn Ouelette was 8 for 8 from the foul line for coach Steve Tobitsch’s 9-10 Eagles. Sarah Stolze scored nine points

St. Joseph girls’ basketball

Kate Rudini scored 14 points, Izzy Casucci nine and Erika Stephens had eight in a 45-20 win over Staples. Rudini added 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals for the 18-1 Cadets.. Rodriguez had nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Casucci had eight rebounds and three blocks.

St. Joseph boys’ basketball

St. Joseph defeated Staples 76-71 on Monday to improve to 11-6 with their sixth consecutive win. Staples is 12-5.

Derek Long scored 19 points, Will Snydor 17, Ethan Long 14 and Johnny Niv 11.

St. Joseph earlier defeated Wilton 61-49 and Harding 72-38. Snydor had 23 points and four rebounds against 11-2 Wilton. Ethan Long scored 14 points and had four steals. Derek Long scored 12. Derek Long and Niv each had 11 points against Harding. Syndor scored nine, Tommy Crossen eight and Charley Hare seven.

The Cadets beat Brien McMahon 54-42. Derek Long scored 11 points, Sebastian Sampieri nine, Ethan Long nine, Syndor eight, Niv eight and Deshawn Hall-Johnson six. Sampieri made a trio of 3-pointers. Ethan Long and Niv had two threes each. Luke Fortin deflected six New Canaan passes.

St. Joseph boys’ hockey

Johnny Karafa’s goal with 19 second on the clock in the third period was the difference maker when St. Joseph defeated Greenwich 2-1 in an FCIAC game. Ryan Rooney and Mark Husted-Edwards had the assists, as coach Chris Nelson’s Cadets improved to 4-11-0. Joey Bisson’s goal off an assist from Kacper Zajaczkowski put St. Joe’s up 1-0 at the 4:59 mark of the second period. Dan Windells tied the game with three minutes remaining for Greenwich 6-10-1. The Cadets’ Tyler Stiewing had 29 saves.
