Police: Man, 23, shot in hand in Norwich

NORWICH — A man was shot in the hand early Tuesday, police said.

Officers were dispatched to William W. Backus Hospital shortly before 2 a.m. on a report of a patient with a gunshot wound. The 23-year-old was alert after being shot in the hand, but would not give police details like where he was when he was wounded, police said.

He told officers the shooter fled after the gunfire, according to police.

“Based on the information gathered, this incident does not appear to be a random act and (it) appears there is no immediate threat to the public,” Sgt. Avery Marsh said in a news release.

Anyone with any information about the shooting can call the Norwich Police Department’s detective division at 860-886-5561, ext. 3199 or the anonymous tip line at 860-886-5561 ext. 4.
