Edward D. Knauf, age 91, of Shelton, passed away June 12, 2013 at Hewitt Health and Rehab Center in Shelton. He was born in Bridgeport and was a life long area resident. He proudly served his country and was a retired Lt. Col. from the Air Force Reserve with more than 26 years of service including two wartime active duty stints in WWII and the Korean War. He piloted B-24 and C-54 aircraft in WWII and was an aircraft commander of B-29 aircraft in the Korean Conflict. When he returned stateside he was an instructor of C-54 pilots. In his civilian life he was a retired pressman with the Post Publishing Company. He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie Webster Knauf. Survivors include his wife Marguerite; his two children Gary and his wife Cyndi of Shelton and Diane Olsen of Trumbull; his grandchildren Edward (Lindsay) Gary, Christina, Robert, Thomas and Jamie Knauf and Alyssa and Greg Olsen; one great grandchild Holden Knauf; his nieces Joan Zinsky and Peg (David) Nelson and his step children George(Patty),and Robert(JoAnn)McCarthy and Maureen (Mike) Vonick and step grandchildren Alex and Devin McCarthy. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Hewett Health Care of Shelton and its loving staff who cared so kindly and compassionately for Ed. We also want to thank Hospice of CT for their assistance and support during his last days. Services were held privately for the family at Saint Lawrence Church in Shelton. Burial was in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors.
