Obituary: Wilhelmina Buntin "Will" Karcher of Trumbull

Wilhelmina Buntin (Will) Karcher passed away peacefully on March 20 at Connecticut Hospice.

She was born on October 18, 1940, and grew up in Homer City, Pennsylvania, with her parents and four siblings.

Willy graduated from Muskingham College in 1962 and began pursuing her life-long passion for teaching at a middle school in Lakewood, Ohio. Over the next 35 years, she lived in New Jersey, Ohio, and settled in Trumbull in 1978.

She devoted her days to raising her four children and being active in her community. Her commitment to education and love for children continued through her work at Long Hill United Methodist Children’s Center in Trumbull. She spent the past 25 years educating, guiding, and caring for children and their families.

She was affectionately known to all as “Miss Willy” - the energetic, loving, and compassionate teacher. Miss Willy loved her job and felt blessed to be embraced by so many kids and parents.

Nichols United Methodist Church in Trumbull became Willy’s church home over the many years she attended. She enjoyed early services with close friends and participating in volunteer activities. A highlight of her years at the church was serving as a mentor to young friends preparing for their confirmations.

Willy’s last days were spent visiting with family and friends, surrounded in love.

Willy was adored and will be missed by many, including her dear friends, children, and grandchildren.  She is survived by her son Chris Karcher (Lisa) of Columbia, Connecticut; daughter Beth Karcher Grabo (Scott) of Annandale, Virginia;  son Matthew Karcher (Joie) of San Francisco, California; Kathleen Karcher Wilbur (Eric) of Norton, Massachusetts; and seven grandchildren-Bradsby Grabo, Julia Grabo, Jordan Grabo, Ryan Karcher, Nathaniel Wilbur, Carson Wilbur, and Hayden Wilbur.
