Obituary: Rita Keating, formerly of Trumbull and Monroe

Rita Keating, formerly of Trumbull and Monroe, wife of the late William J. Keating, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Masonic Care of Newtown, where she had resided since 2012.

Daughter of the late Matilda and Walter Claflin, she was born in Bronx, NY and she resided in NYC until moving to Huntington, Long Island in 1956.

In 1963 Rita, William and their three sons moved to Trumbull, CT where she raised her family. In 1972 Rita and her family moved to Monroe, where she remained until moving to Masonic Care.

Rita graduated from business school in NYC and her first job was with an insurance company located in the office building above Grand Central Station. Following her move to CT, Rita was a long time employee of Read’s Department Store, from which she retired in 1986.

Rita was an avid traveler, both in the U.S. and to many international locations. She was also an avid bridge player and had a very active social life with many friends. She also had great fondness for shopping for the latest fashions and enjoyed her time sunbathing at the beach. Her greatest joy of all was spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, Ryan and Erin.

Rita is survived by her sons, Kenneth and his wife Sis, and William. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan, Erin and grandson in-law Jay, as well as her devoted niece, Joyce Claflin.

She also was predeceased by her son, Robert.

Rita’s family would like to thank all of her caregivers at Masonic Care of Newtown. These devoted individuals provided constant care, attention and companionship, as well as peace during her last days.

Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Thursday, July 3, at 11:30 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown, CT. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
