Richard F. Dowling, of Hingham, Mass., formerly of Dennis, Mass. and Trumbull, Conn., died peacefully on Jan 21, 2015 at the age of 79.
He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (Kern) Dowling; loving brother of Stephen A. Dowling and his wife Patricia of Milton and Mary Jane Sullivan and her husband Jeremiah of Belmont; devoted father of William Dowling and his wife Nora of Chelmsford, Richard F. Dowling Jr. and his wife Nancy of Huntington, CT, Stephen T. Dowling of Granby, CT and his companion, Dr. Lisabeth Shlansky of Simsbury CT, Mark J. Dowling and his wife Maura of Hanover and Carol Donnelly and her husband David of Darien, CT; cherished “Grampy” of 13 grandchildren.
Richard was a proud member of the Crosby High School (Waterbury, CT) Class of 1953, an active member of the Boston College Class of 1957 and a Lieutenant J.G. in the United States Navy. He loved to sing and spent many years singing with the Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut, Barbershop with the Melody Men and in the church choirs in each of the parishes to which he belonged. He was also a longtime volunteer at the Dennis -Yarmouth food pantry.
In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, gardening and making his friends, children and grandchildren laugh.
A funeral mass will be held on February 7, 2015 at 12 PM at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St (Rte. 139) Hanover, MA. Private Burial will be at a later date.
