Obituary: James Becker, 86, of Trumbull

James Becker, age 86, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Lucille Joy Becker passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

James was born October 6, 1928 in Brooklyn New York to Mildred Smith Becker and James S. Becker.

He attended and graduated Cranwell Preparatory in Lenox Mass and Georgetown Preparatory School in Washington D.C. Jim received his Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College, Georgetown University in Washington DC in 1951. After college He served in the US Marine Corps (1951-52) and then settled in Bridgeport, CT.

Jim worked as a Stock Broker all his life starting with A.M. Kidder which merged with F.I. DuPont. Although his office co-workers and clients stayed constant the owners of the brokerage changed so at various times he worked for Bache Investments, Prudential Securities and ended with Wells Fargo.

Jim’s real passion was his faith and volunteering. He was very involved with the Cursillo and Tres Dias Movement. He worked as lay minister in the Bridgeport County Jail for 10 years. He was the original manager of Isaiah Halfway House in Bridgeport and happily served as dishwasher at Bridgeport’s Merton House for many years. Jim served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Vincent’s Hospital. At St. Theresa’s his parish, Jim served as a Lector for many years and also sang in the choir.

In addition to his volunteer service in faith Jim was a volunteer in CRIS Radio and as a Resident Advocate for the elderly under the State of Connecticut program from 1990-2005.

Jim was blessed with three children, Maureen Streeter and husband John, Maud Bailey and husband Vincent and son Jaimi S. Becker III. Jim was blessed with five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He lived a long and blessed filled life with his wife of 54 years Lucille Joy Becker. He was a great joy and blessing to all who knew him.

Jim’s Family would like to express special gratitude for Imani, Lori and Alex who cared for Jim during his final months and to the staff of Connecticut Hospice at Branford who watched over him during his last days.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00am in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Friends may call Friday 4-7pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
