Obituary: Frederick G. Schalich, 27, of Monroe, a past member of the Trumbull Volunteer Fire Comp. No.1, Inc.

Frederick G. Schalich, age 27, of Monroe, beloved son of Wayne and Mary Lou (Brundage) Schalich, tragically lost his life September 13, 2013.

Fred was born in Stamford and was a lifelong Monroe resident.

He was an emergency services dispatcher for many years and more recently was employed with Hoffman Fuel. Fred graduated with high honors from the University of New Haven with a bachelor’s degree in fire science technology.

He was a past member of the Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company No.1, Inc., a former member of the Chillum Adelphi fire department in Prince George’s County, Maryland where he achieved Emergency Medical Technician certification. Fred was also a member of the Fairfield County Fish and Game Club where he loved to go rifle, bow shooting and fishing.

He was very proud of his contribution as a volunteer firefighter, always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, skiing, snowboarding and cooking barbeque with his own sauce “ the hotter the better”!

In his earlier years he was a boy scout, took Tae Kwon Do, built and set off rockets, rode quads and wave-runners, flew a Cessna 172 airplane and “flew” a Bell helicopter.

His family and friends will miss his infectious smile that could light up a room.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his loving brothers and sisters, Caitlyn M. Schalich of NYC, Roger W. Schalich of Trumbull, Graham H. Schalich of Monroe, and Mallory B. Schalich of Monroe; his paternal grandparents William and Jacqueline Schalich of Trumbull; his maternal grandmother Mary M. Fredericks of Brookfield, CT; his maternal grandfather Alfred G. Brundage of Miami, FL; aunts and uncles, Barry W. Brundage, Lisa (Thomas) Nicolett, Lynda Kapostas, and Mark (Colleen) Schalich and a host of cousins and friends.
