The oldest daughter of Ralph and Evelyn (Sutton) Springer, she was born April 30, 1924 in Elmhurst, DE.

She was the devoted wife of over 50 years of Roy Stuart Mackey, who wrote on their first wedding anniversary, “A year so sweet; a year so fleet, I scarcely knew its essence/ Beguiled by you, into a dream/ Where time is all remembrance.”

She is survived by her children Jeff and Diane (Cote) Smith of Spokane, WA; Susan Mackey-Kallis and Kyriakos Kallis of West Chester, PA; Elizabeth (Mackey) Steeves and Douglas Steeves of Monroe and her grandchildren Zachariah, Noah and Elizabeth Steeves and William and Alexander Kallis.

Betty worked for many years as a mechanical draftsman/designer at Raybestos in Stratford. She was part of the Hamilton Standard design team that developed the Apollo space suit. She finished her working career at Bullard Havens Technical School where she taught mechanical drafting and CAD until retirement at 65.

A woman of great faith and charitable works, for many years she was active in the Long Hill United Methodist Church and, later in life, The Huntington Chapel. Betty once said that her greatest desire was to someday sit at the feet of God in humble adoration.
