Attorney Johanna Sutjak Malinowski, 73, of Trumbull, passed away November 5, 2013 at CT Hospice in Branford after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born in Allentown, PA to the late John and Marie Sutjak, and has been a Trumbull resident for 45 years.
She received an AA from Gwynedd-Mercy College, 1960, a BS from Sacred Heart University, 1979, and her JD Law from the University of Bridgeport in 1982.
Johanna was a very active member of the community, recently served as treasurer of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and previously served as AAUW Branch President as well as Treasurer for The League of Women Voters. She also was a Chairman of the Town of Trumbull School Code Violations Compliance Committee. She was a member of the Trumbull Vocational Agricultural Building Committee. She was also a member of the CT and Greater Bridgeport Bar Associations.
Johanna was passionate advocate for her clients and continued to work from her Smilow bed. She enjoyed teaching first communion classes in St. Catherine of Siena Parish for many years and then moved on to teach paralegal classes at Sacred Heart University. She cherished family reunions in PA and her travels included Slovakia, Russia, Rome and the Holy Land.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Stanley W. Malinowski.
She is survived by her three children Stan Malinowski his wife Regina of Guilford, Bob Malinowski of Shelton, Robin Dougherty, her husband Kevin of Trumbull; her sister Bernadine Schumaker and husband Donald of Allentown, PA, her sister Marion O’Neil and husband Dennis of Bethlehem, PA; her brother John Sutjak and wife Becky of Houston, TX; her brother and sister-in-law Frank and Eugenie Malinowski of Guilford; five loving grandchildren Derek, Cory and Luke Malinowski, Meghan and Katy Dougherty, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Monday at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Catherine of Siena Church 190 Shelton Rd. Trumbull. Interment in Nichols Village. Friends may call on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull.
