Michael P. Fettig, 78, of Trumbull

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Michael P. Fettig, age 78, who died peacefully at his home on November 3, 2013, surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 22, 1935 in Scranton, PA, was raised in Bridgeport, CT and spent most of his adult life in Trumbull, CT.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy Harvey Fettig. Michael was a wonderful father to his four daughters Nan Swan, Eva Fettig-Rusconi, Claire Muldoon, and Michaela McCabe and a loving grandfather to Madeline, Michael, Abigail, Jackson, Emma, Lindsey, Dylan, Matthew, Leah and Alexandra.

Michael was in the 11th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army and received his bachelors and masters degrees from University of Bridgeport and a Sixth Year Certificate from the University of Connecticut. He dedicated his professional career to education, spending 35 years in the Monroe Public School system serving as a teacher, principal and ending his time there as a central office administrator.

Mike missed the day-to-day interaction with children, so upon retiring from the Monroe Public schools he spent the next 10 years working for the Diocese of Bridgeport as principal of St. Gabriel School in Stamford and St. Andrew School in Bridgeport.

As a lifelong sports fan, Mike was an avid UConn, New York Giants and Mets fan, and coach of countless sports teams. He spent several years as Chairman for the Board of Recreation for the town of Trumbull, focusing his efforts on delivering quality recreational programming to the town’s youth. Mike was also a regular contributor to the Monroe Courier and Bridgeport Post on school affairs.

Mike dedicated his life to helping others and never wanted recognition for doing so. He was a man that came from a family of little means, who by the end of his life had achieved professional success through tireless determination, raised a loving family who will miss him immensely and touched countless lives.
